For years, the advisory board at this federally funded institution has provided valuable advice, extraordinary connections and additional philanthropic support. The new Executive Director and executive team appointed in 2018 were unfamiliar with the board, and eager to get to know the members and explore the opportunity to partner with them.
Karen developed a survey instrument to explore key areas of interest for the executive team, and used it to guide personal conversations with each board member. She presented her findings and led a lively discussion about the survey with the board and executive team. The survey results formed the basis for her to write a first-ever board strategic plan to guide the group’s work for the next three years, with goals, objectives, outputs and outcomes for the board overall and individual committees. She also led a workshop to help members of the executive team build skills to better communicate and collaborate with the board. |
