For much of the past several decades, government grants represented the majority of funding for Freedom House, the independent organization founded in 1941 dedicated to the freedom and democracy around the world. But with an appetite for increased advocacy and action, the organization was seeking to diversify its base of funding. Freedom House recruited its first-ever Chief Development Officer, and hired Ancillai Solutions to help plot a new strategy.
Karen researched and drafted a detailed outline for establishing a new major gifts program, which became the basis for the institution’s first-ever board-approved development plan. To support the new fundraising program, she designed a development office staffing plan, drafted position descriptions, and developed policies and procedures for gift acceptance and prospect clearance. To support outreach to new funders, she drafted a prospectus and made recommendations for the Freedom House website. Within the first year of the new fundraising plan and team, the organization raised 150% of its original goal. |
